DJI Agras T70P Launches in New Zealand

Bringing High-Volume Spraying and Spreading to New Zealand Farms: Introducing the DJI Agras T70P

Farming in New Zealand has always demanded adaptability. With rising input costs, tight labour markets, and strict environmental rules, primary producers are constantly looking for better ways to operate.

High-capacity agricultural drones are bridging the gap between heavy ground machinery and traditional aviation. While tractors risk severe soil compaction on wet paddocks, and helicopters are often constrained by seasonal availability and high deployment costs, high-volume application drones offer a highly flexible, on-demand alternative.

To help contractors and farm managers bring this capability in-house, Ferntech is introducing the DJI Agras T70P to the local market. Designed primarily for large-scale liquid spraying, followed by solid fertiliser spreading and slung-load transport, the T70P provides operators with complete control over their application schedules.

Built for High-Volume Work

Within the DJI agricultural range, the T70P stands out as the dedicated heavy lifter. While smaller models are highly effective for spot spraying, the T70P is built for scale. It is designed for commercial contractors, forestry crews, and large property owners who need to move significant volume efficiently.

Carrying up to 70 litres of liquid or 100 litres of solid fertiliser, this drone cuts down the number of times your team has to return to the loading site. For a commercial contractor, this provides a reliable alternative when helicopter availability is limited. Under ideal conditions, operators can cover up to 21 hectares an hour or broadcast 1.5 tonnes of fertiliser an hour, helping improve control over application costs and scheduling.

Beating the Weather Windows

High payload capacity becomes critical when changeable weather limits your flight time. To keep operations moving during these narrow windows of calm coastal air, the T70P uses fast-charging smart batteries.

Connected to a compatible inverter generator, a flight battery reaches full charge in about nine minutes. This allows operators to cycle flights continuously and make the most of short, early-morning spraying shifts.

Tackling Steep Topography

Of course, very few New Zealand farms are perfectly flat. Getting spray or fertiliser onto steep hill-country blocks is traditionally difficult and expensive. The T70P navigates these environments using advanced radar and terrain-following sensors that read the ground live as it flies. It automatically adjusts its height over steep ridges and handles slopes of up to 90 degrees.

This real-time terrain reading means operators can often bypass separate mapping missions and get straight to work. When applying over high-value horticulture or commercial vineyards, boundary management is also automated. As the aircraft reaches the edge of a mapped block, it automatically engages single-sided nozzle control. This keeps the application strictly within the property line, protecting sensitive waterways or neighbouring organic blocks without requiring the operator to manually intervene.

Taking the Risk Out of Farm Logistics

Beyond crop spraying and fertiliser spreading, the T70P is a highly practical transport tool. Fitted with an integrated lift system, it can lift utility payloads up to 65 kilograms.

If a team is fixing a boundary fence in a remote gully, you can drop posts, tools, or saplings within minutes. This significantly reduces manual handling and mitigates the safety risks associated with operating quad bikes on dangerous, wet slopes.

Authoritative Support and Integration

Successfully deploying an enterprise drone requires more than just acquiring the hardware. It requires a structured approach to compliance, integration, and maintenance.

As a New Zealand commercial drone supplier, Ferntech delivers comprehensive technology solutions across agriculture, forestry, surveying, and public safety. Our specialist team assists operators with navigating Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Part 102 certification, coordinating certified pilot training, and establishing robust standard operating procedures. Supported by our DJI-certified Auckland repair centre, we ensure your fleet remains compliant, safe, and fully operational season after season.

Evaluating the Fit for Your Operation

The DJI Agras T70P gives New Zealand farmers and contractors a practical, high-capacity tool to take control of their application workflows. By improving operational flexibility, reducing reliance on contracted aviation, and enhancing staff safety on steep terrain, the T70P helps agricultural businesses maintain efficiency in a demanding economic environment.
